DEPARTMENT DETAILS
Department of Optical Fibres Technology

Chairman: Ivan Kašík, Ph.D.
Division: Division of Photonics
Further details: http://www.ufe.cz/dpt240/

The Department was established in IPE in 1993 by delimitation from the Institute of Glass Chemistry and Ceramic Materials in order to continue the research in optical fibre technology, which started in the Academy of Sciences in the end of the 1970s. The activity of the Department is concentrated on material and technological research in the field of fibre optics conducted in close collaboration with the Department of Optical Sensors and the Department of Guided-wave Photonics of IPE.

Nowadays the research activities have been focused on development of methodological approaches of preparation of special optical fibers of novel materials or novel structures with potential for optical chemical sensors or for non-linear applications. Activities of the Department are based on complete technology for optical fiber fabrication involving MCVD preform preparation and fiber drawing with implementation of sol-gel method and basic fiber characterization.
