Research in the Time and Frequency Department is focused on ultra-sensitive short-term frequency stability measurement at low radio frequency in ambient temperature, both in time and frequency (spectral) domains. Research also concerns applications of the dual-mixer time-difference multiplication method in accurate measurement of short time-delays in electronic components.

Also investigated are methods for precise time-interval measurement and accurate time transfer via satellite positioning systems and via optical links. Part of the Department is Laboratory of the National Time and Frequency Standard which ensures, within the National Metrology System, the physical realization of the TAI second and UTC time scale. The Laboratory also performs high-accuracy calibrations of industrial atomic frequency sources, ultra-stable quartz oscillators, and GPS-disciplined frequency sources and clocks.
