A record-breaking experiment in transmitting precise time over the Internet

On 1 and 2 March 2010, in cooperation with CESNET, a Czech-Austrian experiment took place to compare the time of atomic clocks in Prague and Vienna using an optical link.

The experiment achieved a measurement uncertainty of less than 1 nanosecond. International transmission of time over an optical link over such a distance and with comparable accuracy has probably not been done elsewhere in the world.
