The proposed deals with special optical fibers with the inverted graded-mdex (IGI) refractive-index profile for evanescent-wave detection. Up to now such special fibers with refractive index lower than that of silica have been studied. However, by usingthese fibers it is not possible to detect refractive-index changes in the region above 1.457 what can be considered as a certain limitation. To overcome this limitation it is proposed to solve the material and technological problem of preparation of novel type of special optical fibers exhibiting as high sensitivity to the refractive-index changes as possible in the refractive-index region above 1.457 and experimental verification of the sensitivity of prepared samples. Special fibers doped with Ge02, SnCO2 and TiO2 will be prepared and for the region of higher refractive indices the step-index fibers from optical glasses will be drawn. Sensitivity of the prepared sensing fibers to the refractive-index changes (absorption coefficient changes)
