Thulium-doped materials are widely investigated for optical amplifiers and eye-safe high power lasers. The goal of the project is the preparation of active optical fibers doped by nanocrystalline (Tm[x]Y[1-x])2Ti2O7 with tailored size of nanocrystals andcomposition leading to the maximal fluorescence yield. The project deals with preparation of nanomaterials and investigation of relationships between optical properties of the prepared materials and their composition, structure and size of nanocrystals.Materials will be prepared by the sol-gel method. The preparation and properties of nanocrystals will be investigated on the model Eu-doped compound. The elaborated method will be adapted to the preparation of nanocrystalline (Tm[x]Y[1-x])2Ti2O7. The active optical fibers with enhanced luminescence and the clarification of relationship between the optical properties and nanostructure of prepared materials will be achieved as results of the project. The results could contribute to increased efficiency of fiber amplifiers operating in the telecommunication S-band or high power lasers.
