The project of a bilateral cooperation with the Institut für Photonische Technologien e.V., Jena, Germany is focused toward research of optical fibre sensors utilizing tapered fibres. The role of IPE in this project is mainly analysis of propagation of optical radiation in tapered fibres coated with suitable layers, especially metallic ones, determination of transmission properties of such structures and their sensitivity to changes of optical parameters in their vicincity. At IPE, laboratory samples ofselected taper structures will be also fabricated and their transmission properties iMinisterstvo průmyslu a obchodurtant for sensing applications will be measured. The design of fibre taper structures suitable for particular technical applications will be proposed in close cooperation with the German partner that will specify the applications. The partner institute will provide fabrication of laboratory samples of the most promising sensing structures and characterization of their functionality.
