The prestigious Otto Wichterle Award for 2016 was presented by Prof. Jiří Drahoš, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, on Monday, May 30, 2016, at Lanna Villa in Prague to twenty-one young scientists who successfully completed an exceptionally important scientific task. The award is intended for top holders of scientific degrees (CSc., Dr., Ph.D., DrSc.) who are under 35 years of age in the calendar year of the nomination. The award for young scientists bears the name of Prof. Otto Wichterle in memory of the outstanding Czech chemist of world renown, who became president of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences after November 1989. “It is not only an award, but also motivation for further scientific work. I have seen some past recipients of the Wichterle Award who later received the Academic Award and became directors of institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences, so you certainly have a promising future ahead of you,” said Prof. Jiří Drahoš, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, at the beginning of the ceremony.
