The new device is designed for the detection of real-time pH in the field of biology and medicine (ie 5.5-7.5).

Scientists from the Fiber Lasers and Nonlinear Optics team, in collaboration with Safibra and SQS Fiber optics, have successfully completed the development of a device for optical pH measurement of microscopic samples [1]. This research was based on the results of previous basic research on fluorescence fiber optic sensors. The new device is designed for the detection of pH in the usual biology and medicine range, ie 5.5 - 7.5 in real time with a repeatability around pH 0.1. Unlike similar commercially available devices, it can measure samples with a spatial resolution better than 50 μm and a minimum volume of 5 μl. The device has been tested for hormonal plant research and has potential for use in ophthalmology [2], assisted reproduction and infarct factor research.
