Popularization of science

ddition to scientific and research activities, our research institution is also actively focused on communication and popularization of science. Every year we participate in major popularization events in the Czech Republic and also organize our own events for the public. In our laboratories you have a unique opportunity to meet our scientists and take part in interesting experiments. See what events we offer and plan your visit to experience science for yourself.

The Science Fair is the largest popular science event in the Czech Republic, organised annually since 2015 by the Czech Academy of Sciences. It deals with science in all its forms and offers its visitors the most interesting from the world of natural sciences, engineering, humanities and social sciences. It presents science and research as a fascinating and fundamental branch of human activity. Visitors experience science first-hand through interactive exhibits, models, mobile laboratories and hands-on workshops. Open Days / Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences

November

The Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences is a science festival that is a seamless continuation of the former Week of Science and Technology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It includes lectures, exhibitions, events at workplaces, documentary films, workshops and many other activities across the country and all scientific disciplines. The festival is intended both for high school students, for whom we prepare mainly lectures and excursions in the morning, and for the general public, who are targeted by the programme in the afternoon and evening.

The Week of the CzechAcademy of Sciences is coordinated by the External Relations Division of the Centre for Joint Activities of the CAS. All departments of the Czech Academy of Sciences participate in the organisation of the festival.

Admission to all events is free.

Date: 3 – 9 November 2025

Every year, the Institute of Photonics and Electronics joins the Academy of Sciences Week in the form of Open Days at both its sites – in Kobylisy, where the main building with most of the research areas is located, and in Lysolaje, where the laboratories for research on optical fibre technology are located. We are preparing a number of interesting lectures and tours of the laboratories on a wide range of topics.

Registration for all tours and excursions is online via the reservation system.

Open Science

Year round

The main mission of the Open Science project is to get young people excited about science and research. Thanks to the Open Science project, they can get involved in scientific research already in high school. Open Science primarily offers professional scientific internships for talented students at CAS institutions under the direct supervision of scientists, but also professional training courses for science and humanities teachers, which can enrich their teaching. The project also includes expert lectures, excursions, exhibitions and other events for the professional and lay public.

The internship in 2025 runs from January to November. The timing of the internship is determined by the lecturer, in agreement with the intern, to suit both parties. As a minimum, the internship should take place for 8 hours per month. The exact timetable depends on the agreement with the tutor. Internships take place directly at the scientific departments of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Open Science Internships at ÚFE in 2025:

Lecturer: Ing. Jan Grym, Ph.D.
Duration: 12 months, 8 hours/month
Internship location: Chaberská 57, 18200 Praha 8
