We presented our research at the 10th anniversary edition of the Science Fair

The Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the Czech Academy of Sciences participated again this year in the Science Fair, the largest popular science event in the Czech Republic. At the 10th anniversary edition, held from June 4 to 6, 2026, at the PVA EXPO Letňany complex in Prague, researchers from the ÚFE presented visitors with fascinating insights into the world of modern photonics, electronics, and sensor technologies.

The Science Fair, organized annually by the Czech Academy of Sciences, featured more than a hundred interactive exhibits, experiments, lectures, and demonstrations of scientific work over the course of three days. The tenth anniversary edition attracted tens of thousands of visitors of all ages—from school groups and families with children to those interested in the latest scientific discoveries and technologies.

At the booth of the Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, visitors had the opportunity to learn about research focused on nano-optics and ultra-sensitive optical biosensors—that is, modern optical, electronic, and sensor technologies. Through interactive demonstrations and discussions, visitors gained insight into the world of cutting-edge research and learned more about its practical applications. We prepared activities at the ÚFE booth for all age groups—visitors could make a stamp or a keychain featuring a diffraction animal, examine photonic chocolate, assemble a 3D bio-puzzle, look through a microscope at microorganisms living in hay infusion, solve a laser maze, or walk through a light frame. For those interested in a more in-depth discussion, we had prepared presentations on current research and scientific posters.

Participation in the Science Fair is a traditional opportunity for the ÚFE to present the results of its research to the public and inspire young people to study natural and technical fields. Meeting visitors in person also allows us to demonstrate how new technologies are created and how they can contribute to addressing current societal challenges.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth. We look forward to seeing you again at next year’s Science Fair!
