Work at ÚFE

The Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ÚFE CAS) has long been engaged in research and development in the fields of photonics and electronics. It focuses particularly on supporting excellence in research and actively promotes interdisciplinary and international cooperation in these areas. For its employees, ÚFE CAS provides a stable working environment with opportunities for further professional development, along with a range of benefits and employee advantages.

In the area of recruitment, ÚFE CAS supports the principles of Open, Transparent and Merit-based Recruitment (OTM-R).

These principles form part of the HR Excellence in Research Award process, which ÚFE CAS joined in 2025. As part of this process, ÚFE CAS is also focusing on related measures aimed, among other things, at the recruitment, selection, and career development of researchers.

The objective of OTM-R is to ensure that recruitment procedures are conducted openly, clearly, impartially, and according to predefined criteria. Applicants are assessed primarily on the basis of their qualifications, professional experience, achievements, motivation, and suitability for the position.

ÚFE CAS strives to ensure that:

  • vacancies are openly advertised,
  • requirements for applicants are clearly and appropriately defined,
  • recruitment procedures are conducted transparently,
  • applicants are evaluated according to relevant professional criteria,
  • communication with applicants is clear and timely,
  • the recruitment process respects the principles of equal opportunities and non-discrimination,
  • recruitment practices are continuously evaluated and improved.

As part of the HR Award process, ÚFE CAS is also preparing a clearly formulated OTM-R policy and related methodological documents. These documents will be published after being discussed and approved.

The recruitment process generally consists of the following steps:

  1. publication of the vacancy,
  2. receipt and assessment of applications,
  3. selection of candidates for the next stage of the process,
  4. interview or other professional assessment depending on the nature of the position,
  5. decision on the selected candidate,
  6. informing applicants about the outcome of the recruitment process.

The specific course of the recruitment process may vary depending on the type of position. The requirements for applicants, the list of required documents, the application deadline, and the contact person are always specified in the relevant job advertisement.

Equal Opportunities

ÚFE CAS supports equal treatment of all applicants. Recruitment procedures are conducted without discrimination on the grounds of gender, age, nationality, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or other personal characteristics. The basic principles of a balanced approach are defined in the current Gender equality plan.

Applicants’ personal data and documents are handled confidentially and in accordance with applicable legal regulations.
