Technologies of preparation of silica fibers with special refractive index profiles for chemical sensors

This project is concentrated on some new aspects of MCVD technology of preparation of special silica fibers for chemical fiber sensors. Attention is given to the preparation of fibers with inverted refractive index profile formed from silica glass dopedwith boron oxide and fluorine or doped with germanium oxide. The study of etching from gaseous or liquid phase by means of fluorine compositions for suppressing of the refractive index modulations and so for improving of fiber waveguiding parameters willbe carried out. Forming of the shape and surface of the preforms by the same way of etching with the aim of reaching of the defined preform diameter will be studied next. The possibility of increasing of the MCVD deposition efficiency by cooling of the substrate tube will be studied, too. Solution of the project is based on experimental approach with interpretation on the basis of MCVD models.
