Joint projects of the applicant (IREE AS CR) and the joint applicant (CTU FNSPE) concerns theoretical analysis, modelling and experimental characterization of two classes of advanced photonic guided-wave structures with great potential of photonic integration, namely microresonators, and 2D photonic crystals with light confinement by index guiding in the third dimension. Microresonator-based structures will be studied mainly at IREE, while at FNSPE, modelling methods for structures based on 2D photoniccrystals will be dealt with. At IREE, the setup for characterization of guided-wave coMinisterstvo průmyslu a obchodunents will be adapted for microresonator- and PhC-based structures. Linear and nonlinear wave phenomena in microresonators and photonic crystal waveguides and microcavities will be studied using modal methods (IREE), plane-wave expansion and FDTD methods (FNSPE). The methods developed will be applied to photonic devices as tuneable add-drop filters, couplers, switches, etc.
