Matyáš Černý is a student of the Secondary Industrial School of Communication Technology in Prague and has been interested in science for a long time. He competed and won the first prize, the Day with a Scientist, at the November Open Days of the Institute of Electrical Engineering. He could choose which research team he would spend a day with in our institute. He chose Synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials and visited us this week.
Matyáš tested the scientist’s work for himself. He witnessed how the solution is prepared, tried himself the preparation of the substrate by chipping a silicon wafer on which a thin germ layer is applied from the solution. He watched how the germ layer is annealed in special furnaces, and finally he also visited the electron and ion microscopy and microanalysis laboratory, where a special microscope is used to examine the zinc oxide nanotubes that grow on the sample.
